Shooting fish in a … pond

I went out to the first Kyle Hooked on Fishing event this past Saturday and had a blast shooting their fishing competition.

Each kid was partnered with an adult and competed according to the child’s age.  Then they were judged on the weight of and how many fish they caught.

These guys were the winners for weight, with three bass weighing in at over 4 pounds each.

The kids got a fishing lesson before the competition, but some were still getting the hang of it.  Below is Javier, and he caught a couple of small fish, but it seemed like everything he caught swallowed his hook.

After it was all over, each participant got a certificate, making them official Junior Anglers.

For photographers, events like this are almost cheating.  Besides being really fun, these events tend to be very visual.  Kids, fishing poles, worms, grandparents, trophies, a scenic pond – it’s like a candy store.  I have a lot more images that I like, but I will spare you the entire collection.   …Okay, maybe a few more, but I’ll make ‘em small…

This was a great day for me, my son, and our whole family. Saturday we are going to find a frame to put the article and the picture in…just need to find out how big the frame will be so we know what size picture to order. My son had a blast but as soon as the fish was caught he was off trying to catch butterflies :-) . Thank you Ms. Landis for taking our picture and we’ll cherish this day for a long time. He’ll love this pic and article in the statesmen for decades to come.
